Princess Anne visits The Cornish Cheese Company
It is rare for a company to have a Royal visitor so the Cornish Cheese Company at Upton Cross near Liskeard were both honoured and delighted to enjoy such an occasion recently when Princess Anne, the Princess Royal visited.
The visit was both a celebration and recognition of a Cornish success story which has seen the company grow substantially in recent years with significant investment in production facilities and people.
“We started making cheese in 2001 but the business really started to take off in 2010 when our cheese, Cornish Blue, was named world champion cheese” explains owner and founder Philip Stansfield.
“Winning that award created tremendous interest and demand and we now produce three tonnes of cheese each week and our staff numbers have grown to 15”
New production facilities have been created and the range of Cornish Blue products has extended into pates and a goats cheese, Cornish Nanny, which already has an International Gold Award under its belt.
The Princess Royal enjoyed a guided tour of the production facilities, including an opportunity to taste Cornish Blue, and met many of the people involved in the company, finishing her tour with the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate her visit.
As Philip says “It was a great honour to have a visit from the Princess Royal. We are delighted to have been recognised in this way”
The Cornish Cheese Company are planning further expansion over the next 18 months as Cornish Blue continues to win awards and receive recognition for its popularity amongst cheese buyers, as well as chefs, caterers and other food producers who use it as an ingredient.
